Final Report Card

English is one of my favourite subjects and this year it was different because our class was paperless so we did everything online. One big benefit with doing everthing online is that you can also view everybody else's work and you can peer edit other's work.

Self Regulation- When you have a class where you have to work on your phone the whole time it gets hard to self regulate yourself. For me self regulating is difficult because sometimes I end up taking a small break from doing my work and then I get carried away with facebook and instagram. Sitting with the right people also ties in with self regulation because if your always talking to the people at your table you affect your learning time and in class work time and sitting with my friends is always fun but when it's time to work they can be a distraction. I have gotten distracted a few times when I sit with friends but I noticed when I sat away one time during in class work time I got more work done. But Self Regulation also includes actually coming to class on time, coming prepared and ready to learn. In that aspect I am really good because I've only been late like three times and that's mostly because of school reasons and I've only missed one day and that was because I wasn't feeling well. Coming prepared to class is my number one priority because if your not prepared your not ready to learn, I have bring my phone every class so I don't have to waste time and use anybody else's device. Also the day I was away I took responsiblity and I checked the edmodo and I completed the assigment that was due in the class that day at home. One benefit of having a paperless online class is you can always go check what assigments are online and complete them so you really have no reason why you didn't finish the assignment. Completing assignments on time isn't ever a problem for me because I always complete my assignments and there on time in blogger but sometimes I forget to submit on the edmodo. When we have in class discussions about a theme or topic I'm I'm usually engaged and I try to contribute ideas if I think of any but a few times me and my friends get carried away and then we get back on topic when the discussion starts. But with doing in class assigments with our group I'm usually the one who ends up contributing the most because I want to get involved and contribute my ideas. The few times I've gotten off task the teacher told us how important to contribute ideas and pay attention. So I learned from my mistake then because when I listened more I learned and contribued new ideas. When you take a break from working it' hard to come back because you get so carried away and you would rather stay on break but I was pretty decent with taking breaks like I always try to focus more on work and les on social network sites because social network sites will be online forever but grade 10 English only comes once in life so it's better to put everything aside and actually try to focus. I've been trying to focus way more and it's helped me more. It's also important to keep a healthy balance with everything like for example you can balance with English, like you can do your English homework and studying for a little bit then you can take breaks. It's better to have a balance because your eyes will start hurting if your on phone for a long time and your mind will go crazy if your always doing homework so it's better to keep a balance. Also whenever the teacher assigns something to read at home that we couldn't finish in the class like the the novel we were reading in class I completed it at home and understood it.
Also whenever there is an assignment posted that we had to do I always ask my friends if they did it because I also want there work done because I wouldn't want them to have a bad grade. Overall self regulation has taught me many things because you shouldn't always rely on somebody older than you to make a choice for you and yell at you if your always on your phone, at some point in your life you have to make your own choices for what's right for me and what isn't good for me because ultimately your the one who should be worried about your grade not anybody else you work for yourself not anybody else. I think in this category I should get a 26%.

2) All grades are also required to follow the PLO's and also have learnt a few skills from those PLO's. I learnt a lot of new things in this English class and I also feel I have learnt a few PLO's.
This first photo represents the first PLO on this list which is making connections with prior knowledge and experiences. I think I have learnt and showed this aspect of the course really well because for the essay above instead of using other examples I wanted to make connections with the story because that will help me understand the story. Connecting yourself with the poem, short story or novel also helps you experience what that character must have been going through and you can try to put yourself in that same position.

Another PLO I feel I didn't great on was

Because I feel along with learning your behaviour towards the subject counts just as much. I feel I always try to explore new things about my learning in English and then whenever I learnt anything new about a novel we were reading or even about the author I told my group members what I learnt, while I tried teaching them about what I learnt I try to make it more exciting to learn about because nobody likes to learn about something that's not exciting and interesting.

Another PLO I think I did pretty well on is
Because from the beginning of the year till now I knew I wanted to get an A in English class because I knew it's one of my strong subjects and if I try my best, ask questions and actually do my work that I can achieve the goal I set for myself. My plans to achieve this goal would have to be actually trying on my my assigments and getting them done on time in order to also peer-edit, also contribute to other classmates learning by commenting and peerediting there blogs and also asking questions when I don't get what to do because I would ask one question for my understanding and not write a really bad blog post. For this catagory I give myself a 32%.

3) Another large component of this couse is actually trying to contribute to the class environment as best as you can. One way you could contribute is writing a helpful insight comment to your peers about there blog post and try to peer edit what they wrote. It can get hard for the teacher to mark so many posts that sometimes you gotta just step in a help your peers edit and help make there blog posts better.

Here is a comment I wrote on Sukhdeeps blog I told her she had a mistake and also prasied her writing because when somebody prasies something good that you do you obviously get very excited. When we first started using Edmodo my group members didn't understand how to use it, I got a hang of it so I offered to help and show how to use it and if we ever had an problem with technology I was usually the one who tries to fix the problem I think this was very helpful for all of my group members. If one of my group members were ever stuck on what to do for there blog post I always try to help them come up with a theme and idea. Also usually when we have to research something online I am the one who researched most of the stuff and wrote it down and if we ever needed to do any group speaking I usually always do it because my other group members were too shy to go infront of the whole class. I contribued less of my thinking and ideas on Edmodo conversations because sometimes I couldn't figure out what the story would be about and I wasn't open about sharing my ideas although all of our class members have different prespectives. I could have improved with auctually going on the group conversations and trying my best to figure out what the insight of the story actually is. Another important aspect of of contributing to the class is to actually get your work done so you could peer edit other classmates blog posts and other classmates could give there helpful feedback to me. I didn't have an issue with getting work done on time I always tried to get it done on time so I could do some peer editing. So overall in this category I think I should get a 32%.

Overall English 10 was a unique and exciting experience and I'm glad it was this great thank-you to everyone who made this a better learning experience. I think I deserve a 91% including the extra 1% because I admit I talked and got distracted 2 times but that dosen't mean I didn't try to make my work as best as possible and I've always come prepared and ready I also have all my assigments in the Edmodo and I tried really hard to put my understanding into my blog post and always try to connect it with my learning.

  1. Kirat you always put so much into your work. I appreciate your positive attitude and your willingness to go the extra mile to try to demonstrate your care and learning. Your table is very lucky to have had you this year. The one category you were a bit high was the quality of writing section. 32/33 would mean you are nearly perfect on every essay, and I think the mark on the last few essays suggests there is still room for growth. You writing shows a close attention to what teachers have helped you on, but it still lacks the strong "voice" with unique perspectives during the more formal pieces. You share so much during discussions, you just need to keep working at how to formulate your thoughts into your essays. So in that section I would say you are closer to 27. However, your self regulation reflection is very well done and despite the chit chat from your table I think your peers would have been lost without you. I think you are an A but perhaps more like 87… and mostly because you work really hard at it. :) I really enjoyed seeing this side of you Kirat (after having PE with you) and I loved hearing all your thoughts in your your blog. Good luck next year!
