Final Report Card

English is one of my favourite subjects and this year it was different because our class was paperless so we did everything online. One big benefit with doing everthing online is that you can also view everybody else's work and you can peer edit other's work.

Self Regulation- When you have a class where you have to work on your phone the whole time it gets hard to self regulate yourself. For me self regulating is difficult because sometimes I end up taking a small break from doing my work and then I get carried away with facebook and instagram. Sitting with the right people also ties in with self regulation because if your always talking to the people at your table you affect your learning time and in class work time and sitting with my friends is always fun but when it's time to work they can be a distraction. I have gotten distracted a few times when I sit with friends but I noticed when I sat away one time during in class work time I got more work done. But Self Regulation also includes actually coming to class on time, coming prepared and ready to learn. In that aspect I am really good because I've only been late like three times and that's mostly because of school reasons and I've only missed one day and that was because I wasn't feeling well. Coming prepared to class is my number one priority because if your not prepared your not ready to learn, I have bring my phone every class so I don't have to waste time and use anybody else's device. Also the day I was away I took responsiblity and I checked the edmodo and I completed the assigment that was due in the class that day at home. One benefit of having a paperless online class is you can always go check what assigments are online and complete them so you really have no reason why you didn't finish the assignment. Completing assignments on time isn't ever a problem for me because I always complete my assignments and there on time in blogger but sometimes I forget to submit on the edmodo. When we have in class discussions about a theme or topic I'm I'm usually engaged and I try to contribute ideas if I think of any but a few times me and my friends get carried away and then we get back on topic when the discussion starts. But with doing in class assigments with our group I'm usually the one who ends up contributing the most because I want to get involved and contribute my ideas. The few times I've gotten off task the teacher told us how important to contribute ideas and pay attention. So I learned from my mistake then because when I listened more I learned and contribued new ideas. When you take a break from working it' hard to come back because you get so carried away and you would rather stay on break but I was pretty decent with taking breaks like I always try to focus more on work and les on social network sites because social network sites will be online forever but grade 10 English only comes once in life so it's better to put everything aside and actually try to focus. I've been trying to focus way more and it's helped me more. It's also important to keep a healthy balance with everything like for example you can balance with English, like you can do your English homework and studying for a little bit then you can take breaks. It's better to have a balance because your eyes will start hurting if your on phone for a long time and your mind will go crazy if your always doing homework so it's better to keep a balance. Also whenever the teacher assigns something to read at home that we couldn't finish in the class like the the novel we were reading in class I completed it at home and understood it.
Also whenever there is an assignment posted that we had to do I always ask my friends if they did it because I also want there work done because I wouldn't want them to have a bad grade. Overall self regulation has taught me many things because you shouldn't always rely on somebody older than you to make a choice for you and yell at you if your always on your phone, at some point in your life you have to make your own choices for what's right for me and what isn't good for me because ultimately your the one who should be worried about your grade not anybody else you work for yourself not anybody else. I think in this category I should get a 26%.

2) All grades are also required to follow the PLO's and also have learnt a few skills from those PLO's. I learnt a lot of new things in this English class and I also feel I have learnt a few PLO's.
This first photo represents the first PLO on this list which is making connections with prior knowledge and experiences. I think I have learnt and showed this aspect of the course really well because for the essay above instead of using other examples I wanted to make connections with the story because that will help me understand the story. Connecting yourself with the poem, short story or novel also helps you experience what that character must have been going through and you can try to put yourself in that same position.

Another PLO I feel I didn't great on was

Because I feel along with learning your behaviour towards the subject counts just as much. I feel I always try to explore new things about my learning in English and then whenever I learnt anything new about a novel we were reading or even about the author I told my group members what I learnt, while I tried teaching them about what I learnt I try to make it more exciting to learn about because nobody likes to learn about something that's not exciting and interesting.

Another PLO I think I did pretty well on is
Because from the beginning of the year till now I knew I wanted to get an A in English class because I knew it's one of my strong subjects and if I try my best, ask questions and actually do my work that I can achieve the goal I set for myself. My plans to achieve this goal would have to be actually trying on my my assigments and getting them done on time in order to also peer-edit, also contribute to other classmates learning by commenting and peerediting there blogs and also asking questions when I don't get what to do because I would ask one question for my understanding and not write a really bad blog post. For this catagory I give myself a 32%.

3) Another large component of this couse is actually trying to contribute to the class environment as best as you can. One way you could contribute is writing a helpful insight comment to your peers about there blog post and try to peer edit what they wrote. It can get hard for the teacher to mark so many posts that sometimes you gotta just step in a help your peers edit and help make there blog posts better.

Here is a comment I wrote on Sukhdeeps blog I told her she had a mistake and also prasied her writing because when somebody prasies something good that you do you obviously get very excited. When we first started using Edmodo my group members didn't understand how to use it, I got a hang of it so I offered to help and show how to use it and if we ever had an problem with technology I was usually the one who tries to fix the problem I think this was very helpful for all of my group members. If one of my group members were ever stuck on what to do for there blog post I always try to help them come up with a theme and idea. Also usually when we have to research something online I am the one who researched most of the stuff and wrote it down and if we ever needed to do any group speaking I usually always do it because my other group members were too shy to go infront of the whole class. I contribued less of my thinking and ideas on Edmodo conversations because sometimes I couldn't figure out what the story would be about and I wasn't open about sharing my ideas although all of our class members have different prespectives. I could have improved with auctually going on the group conversations and trying my best to figure out what the insight of the story actually is. Another important aspect of of contributing to the class is to actually get your work done so you could peer edit other classmates blog posts and other classmates could give there helpful feedback to me. I didn't have an issue with getting work done on time I always tried to get it done on time so I could do some peer editing. So overall in this category I think I should get a 32%.

Overall English 10 was a unique and exciting experience and I'm glad it was this great thank-you to everyone who made this a better learning experience. I think I deserve a 91% including the extra 1% because I admit I talked and got distracted 2 times but that dosen't mean I didn't try to make my work as best as possible and I've always come prepared and ready I also have all my assigments in the Edmodo and I tried really hard to put my understanding into my blog post and always try to connect it with my learning.

Short Story

"A Strange Day in July" I threw with all my might, but the third stone came skipping back. Me and my sister Aria come every July 27 on vacation to our old lodge. But this year it was wasn't a beautiful sunny day like it always was it was a windy afternoon and we were standing by the shore looking at the beautiful clean ocean water as it was rising and down.

Mother called me and Aria inside for dinner. I finished the delicious roast chicken, vegetables and the orange juice that mother had prepared with our home-grown oranges. I thanked mother and rushed up the stairs as I looked behind Aria was rushing behind me. Me and Aria were on every adventure together.

As I was getting ready to go to the family campfire I felt as if somebody else was in my room with me too as I quickly glanced around my bedroom to see if anybody was there. As soon as I turned around the door shut with a loud creaking noise. I quickly opened the door and there was nobody there I also looked around the whole lodge room but I couldn't spot anybody or anything. I got very frightened so I quickly wore my black track pants, red hoodie and rushed outside to the campfire.

I didn't tell Father Mother or Aria anything because it wasn't a big deal. In our traditional campfire we sing songs, roast marshmallows and make yummy smores. It was around 11:00 so I was getting tired so I said good-night to Mother, Father and Aria and headed to my bedroom.

I woke up early the next morning quickly ate my breakfast and headed to the lake with Aria. We brought our fishing rods, hats, chairs and hats. We both sat down and started to prepare for fishing, we caught two huge fish and two small fish.

After fishing me and Aria went back to the lodge. I decided to take a shower so I rushed upstairs and quickly got into the shower as I was showering I kept hearing a groaning noise I couldn't understand if it was from the shower or from outside then the door creaked and shut again like it did before. Then I quickly got out of the shower and opened washroom door with a towel wrapped around myself but I still couldn't understand if the noise was coming from.

I was starting to get more scared and confused now. I keep thinking why anybody would want to follow me? Mother came upstaris to ask me if I wanted to go to the local supermarket to buy groceries. I refused to tag along because I wanted to investigate more about where all the werid and scary noises were coming from.

I was home alone again because Father went fishing with Aria and Mother went to the supermarket. As I was walking down I looked at the wall and I saw a shadow and that shadow was coming behind me. Then I quickly turned around and there was nobody there.

I decided to leave the lodge and go to the lake because I feel I'm imagining some werid things. I locked the lodge door and put the key in my pocket. Then I got to the lodge and I saw rocks laying on the ground so I decided to skip rocks. The first rock skipped 3 times and the second rock skipped 5 times. The thrid rock skipped 3 times and came right back to me. I was really confused because rocks don't come skipping back.

Then I looked at the lake and I saw somebody standing there with black clothes standing in a boat. That person was rowing closer to me, so I started running away and calling for help. Father rushed to me as he was running from the other side of the lake along with Aria. I told him I saw somebody rowing in the to me and he also looked at the lake, but there was nobody there when I looked back.

Father said I probably didn't get enough sleep and I'm just imagining things. I went back to my room and took a nap. When I woke up I walked downstairs and Mother was just finished cooking dinner. I was still frightened but I managed to finish my macaroni and cheese.

I went upstaris to my room to finish reading my book. My door shut and there was somebody behind me and I quickly rushed to the door and the door was locked so I started yelling and screaming. Then I remembered everyone went to go visit Grandpa. The person tried attacking me so I quickly got my lamp and hit the person in the head.

I took the mask off the person and it was a man with a beard and side burns. I didn't know who this man is. I quickly picked up the phone and called Father and he quickly rushed to the lodge. We called the police and they took the man away.

The police told us that this man was the recent owner of this lodge and wanted his lodge back at any cost. They said this mans name is Jason Hastings and they were looking for him for the longest time and then the police officer took Jason and thanked us.

I was very happy this whole thing was over and now I just wanted to go back home. As we were leaving the lodge the sign said '"This will always be Jason's" and I saw another shadow.

Summative Essay

In life you end up meeting people you will love and people you will hate, but sometimes you have to overlook mistakes that you have made and walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Maybe the person you don't like as much is going through serious family matters and that is causing them to act more different and rude towards everyone. You can't just judge somebody from their family background or the way they act towards others because there is more to a person and you could find them to be really nice and sweet.

Walking a mile in someone else's shoes is also shown in the novel ''The curious incident of the dog in the night-time''. This novel is about a dog murder mystery and it's showing what Christopher Boone does to solve the mystery, the novel also shows how Christopher views things in his everyday life he has a different view of things because of his autism. When Chrsitopher finds out that Mr.Boone killed the dog  he gets very frightened, that's when Christopher goes to his mother's house and his mother has to walk a mile in her husbands shoes who she had left 2 years ago. Mrs.Boone finds it hard to take Christopher anywhere espically a shopping mall because if Christopher is around a lot of people and different noises he lays on the ground and starts screaming. Mrs.Boone didn't realize how hard to take care of Christopher until he came to stay with her. He does and views things differently like he goes out at 3am to take a walk, he hates being in over crowded places, never wants his food touching, he bases his day on how many red cars go by in a day and he also dosen't understand what a lot of things mean like for example when he got arrested for killing Wellington the dog. When Mrs.Boone gets very frusterated she says to Christopher, "Please, Christopher. Don't give me any hassle right now, OK?" which is showing that Christopher is giving her a hassle and how he is hard to handle. Christopher's mother also said "Christopher, I am just about holding this together. But I am this close to losing it, all right? So just give me some'' which is referring to how Christopher's mother is having quite a hard time to keep things together and how he should let her handle things her way. Through all this Christopher's mother still and will love Christopher very much and now she understands how hard it must have been for Mr.Boone to get all through this all alone.

In Romeo and Juilet walking a mile in someone else's shoes is shown many times. As you know the big rivalry between the Capulet's and Montague's is continued through the whole play. When Romeo and Juilet fall in love with each other they forget differences and hate that there family has created between both of them. Romeo and Juilet walk a mile in each other's shoes because they used to hate there rivalry families but as soon as they fall in love
they realize the mistakes there families have made and how it must be difficult for them to hate the families. When Juilet says “Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name'' which means that the name is my families enemy but when it comes to Romeo his name is just attached to Montague his arm, face and no other body part is attached to Montague. That's when Juilet realizes that Montagues aren't awful and rude at all so  as they fall in life it changes there view on each other's families.

Sometimes you also walk a mile in other family or friend's shoes. I also personally have before, I have a cousin who I thought before is really mean and just not nice. That cousin wouldn't talk to anybody and when you did try talking
you would get a rude response like you shouldn't even be talking. But when I found out what difficult phases that cousin had gone through in life, I put myself in that spot and thought how I would feel and act if I was that cousin. Knowing about all these difficulties it changed my view on my cousin and made me realize how hard other people's childhood must have been and maybe that causes them to act the way they act and feel because when you have a difficult childhood it's hard for you to trust anyone.

Walking a mile in someone else's shoes can change your view on them forever. You realize and understand how many difficulties that person must have been through. You should judge somebody by thier family background. Or the way they act and this is shown greatly in the novel ''The curious incident of the dog in the night-time'' and the play ''Romeo and Juilet'' and also you could have personal walking a mile in someone's else's shoes like I did. You should try walking a mile in someone else's shoes before you judge the way they act towards you.
